Bakers Against Racism Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs)
When is the event occurring?
We encourage all participants to begin offering presales no later than June 15th, and coordinate
contactless, socially distant pickups/drop offs/deliveries on Saturday June 20th.
All participants should publically identify and share the organization they plan to donate to, tagging
@BakersAgainstRacism (and utilizing the #BakersAgainstRacism hashtag) on Instagram when they open presales and should plan to post receipts of their donations to these organizations on social media
(removing any identifying information) by Sunday June 21st.
What if I’m unavailable on that day? Can I start a few days early?
While our desire is to have all participants concentrate their efforts from June 15th – 20th, we understand
that those dates may not be ideal for everyone. So if you have to start a bit early or extend deliveries by a day, that’s totally ok.
I don’t think I can commit to 150 pieces of…
It’s ok! The 150 pieces was really a suggestion back when we thought only a handful of professional chefs would be interested in participating. The event has grown significantly in scale since then . You should focus on producing whatever amount is within your ability – but the number of items is really secondary to the purpose of raising awareness and donations for organizations combatting racism and supporting black lives.
Instead of selling a number of items, can I auction off a few big ticket items instead?
Yes – some bakers may not have the ability to make a lot of pastries or the audience to purchase them. In these cases, it’s absolutely ok to pivot towards alternative means to raise donations including, auctioning items or classes.
I’m not a great baker, can I offer something else instead (e.g. art, savory food)?
Yes – we accept all bakers, even those in spirit. We just ask that you follow the same loose outline of sales, pickup, and donations as the other participants.
Can I use the graphics to make stickers? Flyers? Posters? Banners?
Yes! These graphics were made specifically for you all are now in a folder on the google drive labeled “promo art”. So please feel free to utilize them in any way that advances the cause!
